Ashley's KINGSTON in a Nutshell ...

If you intend on knowing the true nature of this country, let me assure you that you can see what Jamaica has to offer without seeing Kingston, but you will not know the essence of this country if you don't experience its capital city.
I found a very convenient location in New Kingston called the Altamont Court Hotel. And it was very centrally located...

Altamont Court Hotel

Just next door is a restaurant called the Hot Pot. They do a Jamaican Menu which is tasty for the most part, even though I had a bit of trouble chugging down my appetizer - Chicken Foot Soup...(Ashley)

HOT POT Restaurant

(Standard Local Prices)
This restaurant offers the Take-away option as well as sitdown dining.
It is usually the best introduction of Jamaican homestyle cooking to visitors - with the traditional local dishes such as Oxtail, Curry Goat, Stew Chicken with Rice and Peas.

Sunday morning breakfasts are also quite popular with many Kingstonians at this place - so if you are of the "when in Rome" school - then this should be on your "to do" list for Kingston.

If you follow certain guidelines and remain in what are termed as Safe zones, you are pretty much good to go. A Few great places to see are DEVONHOUSE and MARKETPLACE.
Devon House hosted a view classy joints including a wine bar and the GROGG SHOP... (Ashley)

BIN 26 is the creation of one of Kingston's finest wine connoisseurs - Chris Reckord.
This is a "no holds barred" establishment whether it relates to providing the most prestigious or in demand spirits on the planet.

For any special occasion, this is where the Wine, Rum or Champagne shopping list will begin and end. Look them up on Facebook for special tastings and events that they do host periodically.

If there exists a list of Jamaican restaurants that serve up the finest in European Cuisine - It would be a very short list and Cafe Aubergine would most likely top it.
This establishment first introduced itself in Monigue (15 minutes drive south from Ocho Rios) where it catered largely to cruise ship passengers that got word of its reputation from online research or the tour desks.
Kingstonians now enjoy the benefits of easier access to this new leg located in the very trendy Market Place.

If it is fair to say that Japanese  Cuisine has cemented its place in the hearts of Kingstonians, the credit is largely owed to a Chef that first introduced it to Jamaica in a big way.

He is Chef Taka - responsible for creating the original buzz at the Hilton Sushi restaurant over 10 years ago. He now runs his new establishment and franchise - EAST located in the courtyard of the Market Place.

Chinese food is extremely popular in Jamaica and an entire directory can be devoted to listing the number of establishments that exist in Kingston alone.
China Express located in the trendy hotspot of the Marketplace Courtyard makes dining access even more challenging on happening nights. So reservations in advance are highly recommended. Most Chinese restaurants in Jamaica do very good business and this one is no exception. The food here is simply very tasty.

Habbibi Latino @ Market Place

Fusion Cuisine is an ever evolving reality that no one can reverse. The general rules of thumb are more or less "if it feels good, smells good, tastes good - keep it on the menu. So said so done.
The Proprietors of Habini Latino are Middle Eastern and Hispanic - not surprisingly. And their marriage of ideas seem to be a runaway hit with the Kingston crowd. Combining their spicy menus only fueled their imagination more. This leaves you with one more thing to do - Check it out and Try it out. You will have no regrets.

Scotchies  Jerk Centre

2 Chelsea Avenue, New Kingston.
Jerk is an authentically Jamaican and as far as the commercialized version of Jerk Pork and Jerk Chicken in more recent times, the locals will more or less agree that it took off in Portland, Jamaica. And took firm root in Chelsea,Kingston.
So it should come as no surprise that the leading "fast food" jerk centre would find its way to Chelsea Avenue - Kingston's known stronghold for the finest Jerk Centers on the island.
For the rustic experience combined with the best service - Scotchie's is the place for Jerk.

... This was my taste of True Jamaica Jerk and I ordered what they had to offer -
Yam, a fried dough called Festival, Roasted Breadfruit, Jerk Chicken, Jerk Pork and Jerk Sausage made from Chicken.
They had a very flavorful pepper sauce that enhanced the taste of any combination on the menu...(Ashley)
... As a person that wants to have a more rounded vision of Jamaica - Seeing and Experiencing Kingston was good for me ... (Ashley)

FICTION NIGHTCLUB & LOUNGE @ Marketplace

Wed-Sat - High Energy - Sophisticated - Entertainment Defining Jamaica Lounge/Club Scene - Kevin Bourke (Co-founder)
Now besides what the club owners and promoters have to say, what is known for certain is that all nightlife anywhere in the world is an ever evolving scene that is determined by trendy crowds that follow the "next big thing". With this said - FICTION is the currently happening place for Kingston's movers and shakers.
It is the entertainment centre where the Jamaican Celebs converge, showboat or whatever else that they do.
If Kingston has a pulse to be felt. It has been pulsing most intensely at this hip and trendy joint in Kingston.
